Functional fiber refers to the fiber with some special functions in addition to the existing performance of the fiber, such as conductive fiber, optical fiber, ion exchange fiber, ceramic particle fiber, temperature regulating and thermal insulation fiber, bioactive fiber, biodegradable fiber, elastic fiber, high emissivity far infrared fiber, which can produce negative ion fiber, antibacterial deodorant fiber, flame retardant fiber, fragrance fiber, color changing fiber, anti radiation fiber, etc.
Functional fibers are classified according to their functions in the following categories:
Fiber with special mechanical properties. It mainly includes high strength fiber, high modulus fiber, high toughness fiber and so on.
Fiber with special thermal properties. It mainly includes high temperature resistant fiber (also known as heat resistant fiber), flame resistant fiber (also known as flame retardant fiber), low temperature resistant fiber, etc.
The chemical stability of the fiber. Such as strong acid resistance, strong alkali resistance, resistance to organic solvent fiber.
Fiber with special physical and chemical properties. Such as conductive fiber, luminous fiber, optical transparent fiber, radiation resistant fiber, heat storage fiber, color fiber, fragrance fiber, phase change fiber, adsorption fiber, ion exchange fiber, catalytic fiber, etc.
Fiber with special biological properties. Such as bioactive (or inert) fiber, antibacterial deodorant fiber, biodegradable fiber, soluble and easy absorption fiber, easy sublimation fiber, etc.
